A15 – Repairing the Sword
⚔️ A15 – Repairing the Sword: From Sea Beast to Cursed Plains
Our journey to restore the legendary blade led us deep into
the Culchan Plains of Lustria, where ancient runes, royal intrigue, and
monstrous threats collided in a whirlwind of trials.
🏝️ Spear Reef Island: The
Princess and the Leechworm
We arrived at the palace of Princess Aelsabrim Fallenstar,
seated beside an ominously empty throne. After formalities, we explained our
quest per the great plan from the Slann. How we needed the broken sword fixed
to do battle with a demon said to reside in an ancient lizardman city called Quetza. As she looked
over the sword, Lemmy showed her the map provided by the lizard Lord Tecciztac.
She vaguely recognized the ancient rune language that hadn't been spoken in centuries.
“There is a place in the interior of Lustria where spirits can read these
runes. As for the sword, seek my brother Lord Finrian.”
To earn her aid, we were tasked with slaying Griselda—a leechworm charmed by the squid-faced dark elf corsair Lokhir Fellheart using a Shard of Nogoroth embedded under its scales. Enter Kurgan Kragbo, a dwarf with an underwater vessel (the “unter-boat”) armed with a single gun, underwater projectiles, and hull barely tall enough for humans.
After a harrowing dive beneath the waves and surface to belch stale air, then surviving a near-fatal encounter with
Griselda’s acidic vomit, Lemmy magically extracted the shard, Kruger magically calmed
the beast, and we limped back to port—alive, ale in hand.
🐀 Secrets, Seals, and
Southern Fog
Back at the palace, princess Fallenstar explained the empty
seat: her husband’s poisoning by a ratman agent and the moss invasion plaguing
the north. She gave us a magical seal to pass through the southern fog to the Citadel
of Dusk, where her father, King Finubar, ruled.
After days of sailing, we reached the living docks and met
the King. He recognized the sword as “Witherbane, the Demon Slayer”
and confirmed his son, Lord
Finrian Stardrake, could repair it—if we could find him, deep within
the interior. He warned us to pass only between the first and second of the 20
Sentinel Towers, or risk death.
🏞️ Northward Through
Danger
Guided by elves, we crossed the gorge between the obelisk
towers via a magical bridge into the Culchan Plains. Giant centipedes ambushed
us—Ranulf nearly lost an arm, Lemmy’s armor held, and healing magic flowed.
Eventually, we found Lord Finrian tending a dying Triceratops infected with
moss as he lamented, “This honorable animal must be put down.”
But tragedy struck again. A Carnosaur, drawn by the dying
beast’s cries, attacked. [used
Fate] Dargo narrowly escaped a fatal bite. [used Fate] Ranulf
avoided certain death by fleeing. Kruger’s prayers blinded and fatigued the
beast to weaken its attacks. [used Resilience] Ranulf avoided death when he realized his
blunderbuss was clogged with dirt. Removing the obstruction, he delivered a
critical blast. Another Kruger prayer filled the beast’s lungs with seawater,
while Dargo’s fire sling-stone set it ablaze, The Carnosaur soon fell to the
onslaught of attacks, drowning, and fire.
🔥 The Sword Reforged
Finrian, though dismayed by Tulkir’s brutal tactics cutting
open the honorable Triceratops, led us to his villa. For two days, we studied
moss notes and dwarven maps while the sword was reforged. At last, Finrian
presented Witherbane, now restored and enchanted to pierce demonic defenses.
The path to Quetza and the demon within grows clearer—but
the moss, the ratmen, and ancient spirits still cloud our fate.
