Setting
Lustria
Land of opportunity and supposed wealth, if you can ignore
the prospects of disease and death in a jungle setting. It’s comforting to know
that nothing waits sleeping in that steaming jungle… right? Except for gold
just waiting to be pocketed. Natives? Trinkets to buy them off.
Isthmus of Lustria
"The land slithers between an expanse to the north and south, and in its middle, like the arching back of a serpent is a great peak that the natives call 'Pahuax.' Sorry, did I say natives? I meant, uh... Sir Navantes. Yes. He called it Pahuax. Of course, there are no natives: it is an empty land, my king!"
— Marco Colombo, Estalian explorer & charlatan
Port Reaver is the largest town within the Isthmus of Lustria, just north-east of Swamp Town, and represents the
first sustained effort by non-Norscan Old Worlders to settle in the New World.
Established by the ousted Pirate Prince Lucciano Soprania of Sartosa in 2064
IC, Port Reaver became the bane of shipping lanes outside of the Black Gulf.
For nearly five centuries, the port flourished as a pirate
haven where the Reaver Princes were said to govern fairly (if raucously)
according to the code of Stromfels. However, in recent years under the new
Pirate King Bastjan Borġ of the Reaver High Council,
Port Reaver has undergone a transformation to change its reputation and
standing. Bastjan seeks to convert Port Reaver into the capital of a new nation
officially recognized by the powers of the Old World, though he has received
significant opposition both from within and without the port.
Port Reaver is hemmed in on all sides by thick jungles which
grow terribly quickly, lending to well-paved streets that end abruptly in vines
and tree trunks that grow up and into the buildings at its limits. On the far
side is a sheltered harbor guarded by two embankments with twin towers — the
Shark and the Trident — that watch the horizon and jungles around. Despite
these defenses, Port Reaver is often raided by strange monsters who slink into
the streets at night. However, the locals are known to be a hardy sort, and no
one would dare swagger outside without a brace of pistols and a cutlass at
their hip, so such attacks are quickly and habitually repelled before any real
damage can be done.
